H. Iqbal started writing detective novels in 60s on Ibne Safi's characters; Faridi, Hameed, Imran, Anwar, Rashida, Qasim etc. He then created new characters "Parmod and Lady Tamseela" and wrote James bond style spy stories. He also edited some monthly urdu magazines (digests) and then edited and published his own magazine - Alif Laila Digest.
He wrote many famous serials including "Chalawa" with the pen name of "Sabiha Bano". He also wrote a book on music - Abjade Moseeqi (The ABC of Music) that became very popular among music lovers. That followed another book on the notations of famous songs of the sub-continent.
He also wrote many books on Islamic history and other short stories.
H. Iqbal passed away on 1 april 2025 after a short ilness.
